Charumati Rotary Club was founded in May 2002, and was chartered on 25th Dec 2003. The club derived its name from a famous stupa standing very prominently in the midst of the city: Charumati Monastry Stupa in Chabahil, Kathmandu. Charumati was the daughter of Emperor Ashoka the Great who had come on pilgrimage with her father and got married to Devpal, a king of ancient Nepal.

The club maintained outstanding memberships, prominent leaders from different walks of business lives and the most sought after personalities. Initially, the club had thrived. The morning had then been bright, and in no time there were about 25 members who had met regularly at the Hotel Dwarika's in Battisputali. But the club could not sustain the glory which it had obtained at the outset. The club suffered from crisis of leadership and instead fell apart and rolled into uncertainty.

This turbulent situation existed for a couple of years until a bold and determined member took up the difficult challenge of reviving the club. Rtn. Ashwini Agarwal, a charter member of the club, had taken up the challenge by becoming the club’s third President and spurting and invigorating the club’s activities.

Presently, the club has been revived and is now thriving. Of the present total membership, eight of them are the original charter members – they have been persuaded, motivated and brought back to the club.

Now we are proud Charumatians, sharing with our fellow Rotarian communities in the district and all around the world.

The Charumati envisioned to support the development of community level education in Nepal. (write to be provided by Rtn. Bhanu)
